Chapter One Part One is the first episode of Chapter One and is the first Chapter of the novel.

Plot

Jamie Keane and Kasey Lavoe talk about how nice a recent funeral they had attended, while Jamie unlocks and steps inside the flower shop. They both step inside, continuing their conversation, until Kasey steps into the back to get some flowers that were leftover from the funeral.

Ms. Sarah Callahan barges into the flower shop, despite Jamie's protest, and starts to ask Jamie about how he's holding up after the funeral. They continue to make small talk until she asks him for a favor, to pick up her nephew Aiden Callahan from the airport tomorrow. Jamie attempts to say that he's too busy the next day, but Ms. Callahan leaves before he could say no.

Kasey emerging from the back asks about Ms. Callahan, Jamie asks if she remembers Aiden from high school, Kasey recalls that Aiden was a 'monster' during high school and mean. He goes onto to tell Kasey that Aiden was back in town tomorrow and that Ms. Callahan told Aiden that Jamie would pick him up from the airport. Jamie attempts to get Kasey to come with him to the airport, but she refuses.

The next day, at the airport Jamie pulls up to the pickup area, and Aiden, donning a loose black t-shirt, grey sweatpants, sunglasses, and a longish scraggly beard, steps into the car.

During the ride to Ms. Callahan's house, Jamie asks about the sunglasses, and the sketchy look. After some conversation about it, Jamie asks Aiden to take off the sunglasses, Aiden refuses and grins. Jamie thinks to himself about how 'damn annoying' Aiden is.

Upon arrival at Ms. Callahan's house, she asks Jamie for another favor, to drop Aiden off somewhere because a car she had lined up for Aiden isn't quite ready yet. Unable to find an excuse to say no, Jamie agrees.
